Coda, Inc. was established by Alfred Coda in the 1970s. Mr. Coda started his career in the photographic industry as a portrait and studio photographer. He established a portrait studio in Englewood, New Jersey. He built a clientele for portrait and wedding photography over several decades.
He was a strong believer in maintaining as much control over the production of his own images. He constructed his own sitting room, lighting system and built his own black and white darkroom. He processed film on site and exposed and printed his images.
He was a very early adopter of color photography. He set up his own color processing equipment in the back of his studio in the 1950s. He installed a dip and dunk processing machine to facilitate his own craft. His color processing line was one of the earliest in New Jersey. His fellow photographers came to him to have their own color film processed. He printed for many professionals during this time.
As a full time practitioner in photography he saw unfilled needs. Based on this experience he started working with heat free mounting methods. Coda, Inc.’s pressure sensitive mounting product line grew out of this effort.
